Do Nigerians need a visa for the United States?

Yes, and new tourist visas are suspended. Since 1 January 2026 the United States has stopped issuing new B-1/B-2 visitor visas to Nigerian nationals. Visas issued before that date can still be used while valid.

New US tourist visas are suspended for Nigerians

Since 1 January 2026, new US visitor (B-1/B-2) visas are not being issued to Nigerian nationals.

How to enter

You cannot currently apply for a new US tourist visa. The suspension, under a presidential proclamation, also covers student (F, M), exchange (J) and immigrant visas. It is reviewed every 180 days, so follow the US Embassy in Nigeria for changes.
